Searching for Community: Theologies of Grace in Wesley and Tillich

January 18 & 25, 2026

Class Description

What does it mean to build authentic, transformational community? In this two-session series, we will explore how the theologies of John Wesley and Paul Tillich can guide us in creating spaces where grace moves, hearts are transformed, and communities flourish.

Session 1: Grace in Motion — John Wesley’s Vision of Transformational Community

We will examine Wesley’s emphasis on the movement of grace, the intentional practices known as the Means of Grace, and the essential role of community in spiritual growth.

Session 2: The Depth of Community — Paul Tillich’s Vision of the Spiritual Presence

We will explore Tillich’s understanding of the Spiritual Presence at work within and beyond formal religious spaces, the power of self-critique, and the church’s call to prophetic courage.

Join us as we reflect on how these insights can shape our own communities today.
