Class Description
This talk will introduce Tibetan Buddhism through the triple refuge of the Buddha, Dharma (Buddha’s teachings), and Sangha (Buddhist community) before surveying the various modalities through which Buddhism was practiced in traditional Tibet.
About Dan Hirshberg
Dan Hirshberg, Ph.D. is teaching associate professor of Tibetan studies in the Center for Asian Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. He has held fellowships at UC Santa Barbara, LMU Munich, and UVa’s Contemplative Sciences Center, and was Visiting Faculty at Naropa University’s Center for Psychedelic Studies. At CU he offers several courses in Buddhism and skill-based, interdisciplinary approaches to contemplative traditions, and integrates contemplative pedagogy into his classes. He is editor of the Journal of the North American Japanese Garden Association, a Karunika (“compassionate” senior teacher) in Nalandabodhi, and has been practicing meditation for nearly 30 years.
