The 21st Century Nation-State: Neo-Reformation Meets Neo-Reconstruction
November 3, 2024

Class Description
The concept of nation-state is another way of describing civil religion. It is not a focus on the separation of church and state; rather it is a reflection on the ways social and political life conform to the character of religion. Political statements function as theological statements. Political campaigns become worship events. Patriotism becomes expressions of faithfulness. This presentation will reflect on the reformation of the Christian Church in America as collaborating with the socio-political agenda to reconstruct America. Church and State are being reorganized through nationalism in the name of saving the soul of America and its dream of prosperity.
